Ingredients

  • 2 oz. tequila blanco or reposado
  • 1 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz. pineapple juice preferably fresh
  • 1/2 oz. orange liqueur Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • Ice cubes
  • Salt or sugar for rimming the glass
  • Pineapple wedge and lime slice for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Strainer
  • Glass (for serving, preferably a margarita glass)
  • Plate for rimming the glass with salt or sugar
  • Knife (for cutting lime and pineapple)

Method

  1. Prepare the Glass: Start by rimming your glass with salt or sugar. To do this, rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass, then dip it into a plate filled with salt or sugar.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: Add tequila, lime juice, pineapple juice, and orange liqueur to a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
  3. Shake: Shake the mixture vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to chill and combine the ingredients.
  4. Serve: Strain the mixture into your prepared glass, filled with fresh ice.
  5. Garnish: Add a pineapple wedge and a lime slice to garnish.

Notes

  • Fresh Pineapple Juice: For the best flavor, use fresh pineapple juice. It adds a richer, more vibrant taste than store-bought options.
  • Frozen Version: For a frozen pineapple margarita, simply blend the ingredients with ice instead of shaking.
  • Spicy Twist: Add a slice of jalapeño to the shaker if you want a spicy kick to your margarita.
  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the cocktail mix ahead of time (without ice) and store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Shake with ice when ready to serve.
