Ingredients

  • 1 shot of espresso or ¼ cup strong brewed coffee
  • 1 cup chai tea concentrate or 1-2 chai tea bags steeped in hot water
  • 1 cup milk dairy or non-dairy, like oat or almond milk
  • Sweetener to taste sugar, honey, maple syrup, or your choice
  • Cinnamon for garnish optional

Equipment

  • Espresso machine or strong coffee maker (French press, AeroPress, etc.)
  • Steaming wand or a microwave for heating milk
  • Mug or glass for serving
  • Spoon for stirring

Method

  1. Brew the Chai Tea: If using chai tea bags, steep them in hot water for 3-5 minutes. If using chai concentrate, heat it in a saucepan or microwave.
  2. Prepare the Espresso: Brew a shot of espresso using your espresso machine, or brew strong coffee if you don’t have an espresso machine.
  3. Steam the Milk: Heat your milk until it’s hot and frothy using a steaming wand or microwave. If you don’t have a frother, just heat the milk on the stove and whisk it to create some foam.
  4. Combine: In a mug, pour the hot chai tea, then add the shot of espresso. Stir to combine.
  5. Add Milk and Sweetener: Pour the steamed milk into the mug and stir in your sweetener to taste.
  6. Garnish: Sprinkle a little cinnamon on top for added flavor and presentation.

Notes

  • For Iced Dirty Chai Latte: Brew the chai and espresso ahead of time, let them cool, then serve over ice.
  • Non-Dairy Options: Use almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk to make your latte dairy-free while still keeping the creamy texture.
  • Sweetener Variations: Experiment with different sweeteners like maple syrup or coconut sugar for a unique twist.
  • Stronger Espresso: If you prefer a more robust coffee flavor, you can add an extra shot of espresso.
