Ingredients

  • 6 quail eggs
  • 6 small slices of baguette or any preferred bread
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese or pâté
  • Fresh herbs like chives, parsley, or dill for garnish
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Smoked salmon or caviar for garnish

Equipment

  • Knife
  • Small frying pan or toaster
  • Serving platter
  • Spoon (for spreading cream cheese)
  • Small bowl (for garnishing)

Method

  1. Toast the Baguette: Place the slices of baguette in a toaster or toast them in a pan until crispy. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Boil the Quail Eggs: In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add the quail eggs and simmer for 2-3 minutes for soft-boiled eggs. Once done, remove from the water, cool under running water, then peel and slice each egg in half.
  3. Assemble the Canapés: Spread a thin layer of cream cheese or pâté on each piece of toasted bread.
  4. Top with Quail Eggs: Place a halved quail egg on top of each canapé.
  5. Garnish: Sprinkle with fresh herbs, and if desired, top with smoked salmon or a small dollop of caviar for an extra touch of elegance.
  6. Serve: Arrange on a serving platter and enjoy these bite-sized gourmet appetizers!

Notes

  • Variation: You can use other spreads like guacamole or hummus instead of cream cheese for a different flavor profile.
  • Serving Tip: These canapés are best served fresh. If making ahead of time, prepare the components separately and assemble just before serving.
  • Storage: Store the toasted bread and boiled eggs separately, and assemble them on the day of the event to maintain the freshness and crunch of the bread.
