Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons black tea leaves preferably Assam
  • 1- inch piece fresh ginger sliced
  • 2-3 cardamom pods crushed
  • 2-3 cloves
  • A few fresh mint or basil leaves optional
  • 2 teaspoons sugar or to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup milk optional

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Strainer
  • Teaspoon
  • Measuring cup

Method

  1. In a saucepan, add 2 cups of water, ginger, crushed cardamom, cloves, and mint or basil leaves (if using). Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, add the tea leaves and reduce the heat. Let it simmer for 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you want the tea.
  3. Add milk if you prefer a creamy version, and let the tea simmer for another minute or two.
  4. Add sugar to taste and stir until it dissolves completely.
  5. Strain the tea into a cup and serve hot.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness according to your preference, or replace sugar with honey or jaggery.
  • If you don’t have mint or basil, you can try using other herbs like lemongrass for a refreshing twist.
  • For a stronger flavor, let the tea brew for a few extra minutes, but avoid overbrewing to prevent bitterness.
