Method
- Warm the Honey: Add honey to a small saucepan and heat gently over low heat. Avoid boiling because high temperatures can affect the natural flavor of the honey.
- Add the Chili Ingredients: Stir in red pepper flakes or fresh chili peppers. Mix well so the spicy flavors begin blending with the honey.
- Infuse the Flavor: Allow the mixture to sit for 10–30 minutes depending on your preferred spice level. A longer infusion creates a stronger chili flavor.
- Adjust the Flavor: Add a small amount of apple cider vinegar for brightness and a pinch of salt to enhance the sweetness if desired.
- Strain and Store: Strain out chili pieces if you prefer a smoother drizzle. Transfer the hot honey into a clean glass jar or squeeze bottle.
- Serve on Pizza: Drizzle over freshly baked pizza after it comes out of the oven. Use a light zig-zag pattern for the best flavor balance.
Notes
Always add hot honey drizzle for pizza after baking, not before, to prevent the honey sugars from burning.
Start with a small amount and add more according to your taste preference.
For mild heat, use fewer chili flakes and reduce infusion time.
For a spicier version, increase the chili flakes or add fresh hot peppers.
Store homemade hot honey in a sealed container at room temperature.
This drizzle pairs especially well with pepperoni, sausage, prosciutto, mushrooms, white pizza, and cheese-based pizzas.
