Ingredients

  • For the chicken:
  • 500 g chicken breast or thighs bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ cup flour or cornstarch
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Cooking spray or 1 tbsp oil
  • For hot honey sauce:
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 –2 tsp chili flakes or hot sauce
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar optional
  • Pinch of salt

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Tongs or fork
  • Small saucepan (for sauce)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Season the chicken: Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces and season with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well so every piece is coated evenly.
  2. Coat the chicken: Dip each piece into beaten egg, then coat with flour or cornstarch until fully covered.
  3. Air fry the chicken: Preheat air fryer to 190°C (375°F). Place chicken in a single layer. Spray lightly with oil. Cook for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  4. Make hot honey sauce: In a small pan, melt butter. Add honey, chili flakes or hot sauce, salt, and vinegar. Stir and warm until smooth and slightly thick.
  5. Combine and serve: Toss hot crispy chicken in the sauce until fully coated. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket or the chicken will turn soft instead of crispy.
  • Adjust spice level by increasing or reducing chili flakes or hot sauce.
  • For extra crispiness, spray a light second coat of oil halfway through cooking.
  • Sauce should be added just before serving to keep the chicken crunchy.
  • Best served fresh, but leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer for 3–5 minutes.
