Ingredients

  • 1 cup tahini
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped pistachios or almonds optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Small saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Loaf pan or small square container
  • Parchment paper
  • Knife (for slicing)

Method

  1. Line a small loaf pan or container with parchment paper, leaving some paper over the sides for easy removal.
  2. Place the honey in a small saucepan and warm it gently over low heat. Do not bring it to a boil.
  3. Add the tahini, vanilla, and salt to a mixing bowl.
  4. Slowly pour the warm honey into the tahini while stirring continuously until the mixture becomes thick and well combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped nuts and cinnamon if using.
  6. Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and press it down firmly with a spatula or the back of a spoon.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 2–3 hours, or until firm enough to slice.
  8. Remove the halva from the pan, cut it into small squares, and serve.

Notes

  • Use good-quality tahini and honey for the best flavor.
  • Avoid overheating the honey, as excessive heat can affect its flavor and texture.
  • For extra crunch, use roasted pistachios, almonds, or walnuts.
  • Store the halva in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving for a softer texture.
