Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2-3 garlic cloves minced or grated
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1 teaspoon dried chives
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon salt to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Medium-sized bowl
  • Whisk or spoon for mixing
  • Knife (for mincing garlic)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Airtight container (for storage)

Method

  1. Prepare the Garlic: Mince or grate 2-3 garlic cloves, depending on how garlicky you like your dressing.
  2. Mix the Base: In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of mayonnaise and ½ cup of buttermilk. Whisk until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the Garlic and Herbs: Stir in the minced garlic, 1 teaspoon each of dried parsley, dill, and chives, and the lemon juice (or vinegar).
  4. Season the Dressing: Add ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
  5. Adjust the Consistency: If the dressing is too thick, add more buttermilk to reach the desired consistency.
  6. Chill: Refrigerate the dressing for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  7. Serve: Once chilled, serve the garlic ranch dressing with your favorite salads, veggies, or as a dip for appetizers.

Notes

  • Storage: Store the garlic ranch dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. If the dressing thickens, thin it out with a little more buttermilk or milk.
  • Customization: Feel free to adjust the garlic and herbs to suit your taste. For a spicier version, add a dash of cayenne pepper or hot sauce.
  • Vegan Option: Substitute the mayonnaise with vegan mayo and the buttermilk with a non-dairy milk alternative to make this recipe vegan-friendly.
  • Make It Healthier: For a lighter version, you can replace half the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt or sour cream.
