Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar optional, for dusting

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking tray
  • Parchment paper
  • Pastry brush (optional)
  • Oven

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  2. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  4. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly across the dough. Roll the dough into a log and cut it into 8-10 equal-sized pieces. Place them on the prepared baking tray.
  6. Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Allow the buns to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute the chocolate chips with chopped chocolate bars or add a mix of dark and milk chocolate for a richer flavor.
  • For a soft, shiny finish, brush the buns with melted butter immediately after baking.
  • These buns can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or they can be frozen for longer storage.
