Ingredients

  • 20 –30 grams chaga mushroom chunks or powder
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • Optional add-ins:
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 –3 slices fresh ginger
  • ½ vanilla bean or ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Raw honey or maple syrup to taste
  • Small strip of lemon peel

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan or small stockpot
  • Stove or hot plate
  • Fine-mesh strainer or tea strainer
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cup
  • Glass jar or teapot (for storage or serving)

Method

  1. Rinse the chaga mushroom chunks quickly under cool water to remove any debris.
  2. If using chunks, break them into smaller pieces to help release flavor.
  3. Add the chaga and filtered water to a saucepan.
  4. Bring to a gentle simmer over low to medium-low heat. Avoid boiling.
  5. Let simmer uncovered for 45–60 minutes, until the liquid turns deep amber or dark brown.
  6. Remove from heat and strain the tea into mugs or a teapot.
  7. Add optional spices or sweeteners to taste and serve warm.
  8. Save the used chaga—re-brew it 2–3 more times until the color fades.
