Ingredients
  

  • 2-3 ripe prickly pear cactus fruits also called cactus pears
  • 1-2 cups of water adjust based on desired consistency
  • 1 lime optional, for a zesty twist
  • Sweetener like honey or agave syrup optional

Method
 

  1. Carefully cut the prickly pear cactus fruits in half. Scoop out the flesh using a spoon, being mindful of the skin’s thorns.
  2. Place the cactus flesh into a blender and blend until smooth.
  3. Pour the blended mixture through a strainer into a bowl to remove seeds and pulp.
  4. Add 1-2 cups of water to the strained juice, depending on how strong you want the flavor.
  5. Optionally, squeeze in lime juice for added citrus flavor or stir in sweetener to taste.
  6. Chill the cactus water in the refrigerator for a refreshing drink.

Notes

  • Be sure to wear gloves when handling the prickly pear cactus fruits to avoid the thorns.
  • Choose ripe prickly pears for the best taste. Look for fruits with vibrant colour, as they indicate ripeness.
  • If you prefer a thicker texture, use less water. You can also use the cactus water in smoothies or cocktails for a unique twist.
