Bombe Alaska Recipe (Classic Ice Cream Dessert)

Ingredients
  

  • 1 litre vanilla ice cream or your favourite flavour
  • 1 round sponge cake layer
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Fresh berries or chocolate sauce for serving optional

  • Dome-shaped bowl or silicone mould
  • Mixing bowls

  • Kitchen torch (optional)

Method
 

  1. Line a dome-shaped bowl with plastic wrap and fill it with softened ice cream. Freeze until completely firm.
  2. Place a sponge cake layer on top of the frozen ice cream and freeze again for several hours.
  3. Prepare the meringue by whipping egg whites until foamy. Gradually add sugar and cream of tartar, then beat until stiff peaks form.
  4. Remove the frozen dessert from the mould and cover it completely with the meringue mixture.
  5. Toast the meringue using a kitchen torch until golden brown, or bake briefly in a very hot oven.
  6. Slice and serve immediately with your favourite toppings.

  • Keep the ice cream frozen at every stage to prevent melting.
  • Make sure the meringue fully covers the ice cream to protect it from heat.
  • You can prepare the frozen base a few days ahead and add the meringue before serving.
  • Try different flavours like chocolate, strawberry, mango, or coffee for a unique twist.
