Ingredients

  • 1 cup of tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes for a smoother texture
  • 1 cup of heavy cream or a dairy-free alternative like coconut milk
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil or butter
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon of dried basil or oregano optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes optional for heat
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese optional for added richness
  • Fresh parsley or basil for garnish optional

Equipment

  • Large saucepan or skillet
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Knife and chopping board (for garlic or optional fresh herbs)

Method

  1. Sauté the Garlic: Heat the olive oil or butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  2. Add the Tomato Sauce: Pour in the tomato sauce and stir. Let it simmer for 3-4 minutes to blend the flavors.
  3. Stir in the Cream: Slowly add the heavy cream (or coconut milk) to the tomato mixture, stirring continuously. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and become creamy.
  4. Season the Sauce: Add salt, pepper, and dried herbs (basil or oregano) to taste. If you like a bit of heat, add red pepper flakes.
  5. Finish and Serve: Stir in grated Parmesan cheese for extra creaminess, if desired. Remove from heat and serve over your favorite pasta, grilled chicken, or roasted vegetables. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil if desired.

Notes

  • Vegan/Dairy-Free Option: Substitute heavy cream with coconut milk or almond cream, and skip the Parmesan to make this recipe dairy-free.
  • For Extra Flavor: You can add a splash of white wine to the sauce after sautéing the garlic, letting it cook down for an additional depth of flavor.
  • Storage: Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. It can be reheated on the stove with a splash of water or cream to restore its smooth texture.
  • Serving Suggestions: This sauce is perfect over pasta, but it can also be used as a creamy topping for roasted vegetables, baked chicken, or shrimp. Feel free to experiment with your favorite dishes.
