Ingredients

  • For the Burger:
  • 1 lb 450 g ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns brioche or pretzel preferred
  • ½ cup crumbled blue cheese
  • Optional Toppings:
  • Caramelized onions
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomato
  • Crispy bacon
  • Pickles

Equipment

  • Grill or heavy skillet (cast iron preferred)
  • Spatula or tongs
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Small bowl for mixing (optional)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Plate for resting burgers

Method

  1. Form the Patties: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently shape into patties about ¾ inch thick. Avoid overworking the meat.
  2. Season: Sprinkle both sides of each patty with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  3. Cook the Patties: Preheat a skillet or grill to high heat. Cook the patties 3–4 minutes per side to achieve a dark, seared crust.
  4. Add Blue Cheese: In the last minute of cooking, sprinkle crumbled blue cheese on top of each patty. Cover lightly to let the cheese melt slightly.
  5. Toast the Buns: Butter and toast the buns lightly on the grill or skillet until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the Burger: Place the cooked patty on the bun and add optional toppings as desired. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Meat Choice: Use beef with higher fat content (80/20) for maximum juiciness.
  • Cheese Alternatives: If blue cheese is too strong, try a milder blue-veined cheese.
  • Cooking Tips: Don’t press the patties while cooking; this squeezes out juices.
  • Resting: Allow the burgers to rest 2–3 minutes after cooking to lock in flavor.
  • Variations: Add spicy jalapeños, sautéed mushrooms, or even a fried egg for extra flair.
