Ingredients

  • Buldak ramen noodles 1 packet
  • Gochujang Korean chili paste (2 tablespoons)
  • Gochugaru Korean chili flakes (1 tablespoon)
  • Soy sauce 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil 1 tablespoon
  • Spring onions optional, for garnish
  • Boiled egg optional, for garnish
  • Cheese optional, for garnish

  • Strainer for draining noodles
  • Mixing bowl for preparing the sauce
  • Wooden spoon or tongs for mixing
  • Knife and chopping board (if adding garnishes)

Method

  1. Cook noodles in boiling water for 4-5 minutes, then drain, leaving a little water.
  2. Mix sauce: Combine gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil.
  3. Toss noodles with the sauce until well coated.
  4. Garnish with spring onions and a boiled egg, then serve.

Notes

  • Adjusting the Spice: If you’re not a fan of extremely spicy food, you can reduce the amount of gochugaru or gochujang. Start with half the recommended amount and taste as you go.
  • Toppings: Feel free to get creative with your toppings. Grilled chicken, tofu, or even kimchi can add extra texture and flavour to the ramen.
  • Broth Option: For a soupier version, add a bit of broth to the noodles before mixing in the sauce.
  • Storage: This dish is best served fresh, but if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1-2 days. Reheat thoroughly before serving.
