Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
Add the softened butter and mix it in until the texture resembles coarse crumbs (using your fingers or a pastry cutter).
In a separate bowl, beat the egg and vanilla extract together. Gradually add this mixture to the dry ingredients and stir.
Slowly add the milk a little at a time, mixing until the dough is soft but not sticky.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times.
Roll the dough out to about ½ inch thickness and cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter or glass.
Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown on top.
Remove from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving.
