Ingredients

  • 2 cups of fresh apple blossoms or dried if fresh isn’t available
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Strainer or cheesecloth
  • Jar or bottle for storing
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups

Method

  1. Prepare Blossoms: Rinse the apple blossoms gently to remove any dirt or insects.
  2. Infuse the Blossoms: In a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and add the apple blossoms. Let the blossoms simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing their floral flavor to infuse into the water.
  3. Strain: After the simmering time, remove the saucepan from heat and strain the liquid to remove the blossoms using a strainer or cheesecloth.
  4. Add Sugar and Lemon: Return the infused liquid to the saucepan, then add the sugar and lemon juice. Stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved completely.
  5. Simmer and Reduce: Allow the mixture to simmer for another 15-20 minutes to reduce and thicken into a syrup-like consistency.
  6. Cool and Store: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the syrup cool. Once cooled, transfer it into a clean jar or bottle for storage.

Notes

  • Storage: Store the apple blossom syrup in the refrigerator, where it will keep for up to 2-3 weeks.
  • Uses: This syrup can be used in beverages like tea or lemonade, drizzled over pancakes or waffles, or added to desserts such as cakes and ice cream for an extra floral touch.
  • Customization: For a more intense flavor, you can let the apple blossoms steep in water for longer before straining, or use a higher ratio of blossoms to water.
