Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon for the apple mixture
  • ¼ cup brown sugar for the apple mixture
  • Optional glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar 2 tbsp milk, ½ tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls (for wet and dry ingredients)
  • Loaf Pan (9x5 inches)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk (for dry ingredients)
  • Spoon or spatula for mixing
  • Oven (preheated to 350°F)
  • Cooling Rack (to let the bread cool properly)

Method

  1. Prepare the apples: In a small bowl, toss the diced apples with the 1 ½ tsp cinnamon and brown sugar. Set aside.
  2. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  3. Make the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and milk. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Layer the bread: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Spread half of the apple mixture on top of the batter. Repeat with the remaining batter and apples.
  5. Bake: Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Optional glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle over the cooled bread for an extra sweet finish.

Notes

  • Apple Variety: Granny Smith apples are tart and work well with the sweetness of the bread, but you can use any firm apple variety.
  • Storage: Keep the bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, wrap slices in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Add-ins: For a crunchy twist, you can add walnuts or pecans to the batter or sprinkle them on top before baking.
  • Glaze: If you prefer a less sweet version, you can skip the glaze, and the bread will still be delicious!
