  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs, granulated sugar, brown sugar, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined.
  5. Fold in chopped apples and nuts (if using).
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 40–50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. For glaze: melt butter, add brown sugar, milk, and vanilla. Stir until smooth.
  9. Pour glaze over warm cake. Let it soak in before serving.
