Ingredients

  • 500 grams of Arbi Taro Root
  • 1-2 tbsp of oil olive or vegetable oil
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp amchur dry mango powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp cumin powder optional
  • Fresh coriander chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Pot (for boiling Arbi)
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon or tongs (for tossing the Arbi)

Method

  1. Peel and Wash the Arbi: Peel the Arbi and wash it thoroughly to remove any dirt.
  2. Boil the Arbi: Boil the Arbi in a pot of water for about 10-12 minutes until tender but firm. Drain the water and let it cool slightly.
  3. Cut the Arbi: Once cooled, cut the Arbi into bite-sized cubes or rounds.
  4. Spice the Arbi: In a bowl, mix the turmeric, chili powder, garam masala, cumin powder, amchur, and salt. Add the Arbi pieces to the bowl and toss well to coat with the spices.
  5. Oil the Arbi: Drizzle the oil over the spiced Arbi and toss again to ensure an even coating.
  6. Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and preheat for 3 minutes.
  7. Air Fry the Arbi: Place the spiced Arbi pieces in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry for 18-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even crispiness.
  8. Serve: Once golden and crispy, remove the Arbi from the air fryer. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve with mint chutney or tamarind chutney.

Notes

  • For extra crunch: Try coating the Arbi with a mixture of breadcrumbs or besan (gram flour) for an added crispy texture.
  • Adjust spices: Feel free to add more chili powder or green chilies if you prefer a spicier version.
  • Storage: Leftover Air Fryer Arbi can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to restore the crispiness.
